First Lego League
Whirlpool have supported the FIRST® LEGO® League since 2019, funding more than 50 local primary schools across Peterborough, Manchester and Bristol to participate.
FIRST LEGO League is a global science and technology challenge for nine to 16-year-olds which sees more than 310,000 young people in 38,800 teams, from across 100 countries, come together to develop their STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) skills.
It is designed to encourage young people to take an interest in real world issues and develop technology skills, FIRST LEGO League helps pupils to engage in their education and also nurtures important teamwork, problem-solving and life skills.
Throughout the duration of the FIRST® LEGO® League challenge, teams are encouraged to demonstrate the FIRST® signature set of Core Values which celebrate discovery, innovation, impact, inclusion, teamwork and fun.
Through investing in the programme we’ve been able to offer local schools the opportunity to develop their STEM skills, as well as offering them an understanding of the local career possibilities that are out there.
It has been a valuable initiative for our colleagues to be a part of also, who donate their time to help the schools prepare for the competition.
