National Literacy Trust
Having been based in Peterborough for over 70 years, Whirlpool UK is always keen to support community projects that benefit local families, many of whom we have worked with for generations.
We have worked closely with Peterborough Reads and the National Literacy Trust to deliver programmes and activities to ensure children and young people in Peterborough have the literacy skills they need to succeed in life.
Peterborough Reads focuses on ensuring children are ready to start school, as well as improving the transition between primary and secondary school to improve pupils’ literacy.
In July 2021 Whirlpool were the first company to sponsor a new trail of BookBench sculptures, designed and painted by Peterborough school children and artists which were installed across the city to bring literacy to life for local families. The trail was launched in museums, shopping centres, cultural hubs and libraries across the city.
We’ve also invested in colleague training programmes to become a reading buddy for local schools as well as advice on reading at home with their own children. Additionally, we’ve provided hundreds of books for local schools in the city through colleague competitions.
